Within regenerative and reparative soft tissue therapy, healing refers to the coordinated biologic process through which tissue responds to injury, intervention, or stress and moves toward restoration of integrity.

Within regenerative and reparative soft tissue therapy, healing refers to the coordinated biologic process through which tissue responds to injury, intervention, or stress and moves toward restoration of integrity. This includes inflammatory signaling, cellular recruitment, matrix deposition, angiogenesis, epithelial or stromal recovery, and later remodeling. Across specialties, healing may be assessed by visible tissue-response observations such as reduced erythema, improved texture, restored pliability, or closure and recovery, but clinically it also includes the quality of the final tissue state, whether regenerative, stable, fibrotic, or only partially repaired. It is not equivalent to the mere passage of time after treatment, temporary reduction of symptoms alone, or assumption of tissue recovery without considering the quality and durability of the repaired state.

Use when describing the coordinated biologic recovery process after injury, intervention, or tissue stress, especially when the quality of tissue repair is relevant.

Avoid Use:

Avoid as a vague substitute for elapsed time, symptom reduction alone, or assumed recovery without assessing the character and durability of the tissue response.
